Casper’s triumphant return to the Cheddarsphere has inspired me. We call that “synergy,” boys and girls.

We’re destroying it all, everything, according to some scientist-philosophers.
In this case however, it turns out that quantum mechanics implies that if an unstable system has survived for far longer than the average such system should, then the probability that it will continue to survive decreases more slowly than it otherwise would.
Thus, as a result of making cosmological observations of dark energy, we may have confirmed that we are in a state where the probability of its survival may fall exponentially.
That’s right. The universe is so fragile that we’re ruining it just by looking at it.

My son is learning to walk. Yesterday, Kelly said he took three steps on his own. Just like with sitting and standing, once he started this new skill he wants to be doing it all the time. So, he’s developed a sudden interest in his walker.
The problem is, he doesn’t like his cheap, plastic walker. It falls over on him, and he doesn’t know how to right it. It only goes in a straight line, too, which means that we need to constantly turn him around in new directions. Cole doesn’t want to be held hostage by this toy, so he’s found a solution. He’s figured out that his Diaper Champ is mobile (on the hardwood floor) and can go any direction he wants. We can’t decide how to fight this battle. We know we can’t win it and he’s learning, but the Diaper Champ is the most germy thing in the room.
I suppose if Cole’s dad had his son’s creativity, he’d invent a substitute for the Diaper Champ and make millions on it. But, I don’t know much about molding plastic. Besides, kids will find a way to misuse any toy, and then those millions would need to go right back into recalls and lawsuits.

Had I blogged about the developments stem cell research yesterday I would have been on the cutting edge. Instead, I watched Hostel II. So, now I’m getting at this a little late.
If this discovery truly does duplicate or nearly duplicate embryonic stem cells it’s going to separate the wheat from the chaff on the whole stem cell debate. Both sides of the aisle are going to have to finally show their true colors.
The truly honest liberals will embrace this discovery as the ultimate in compromise. The extreme left side of the debate will be forced to admit that pushing embryonic stem cell research really was all about legitimizing abortion, or they will find themselves arguing in the face of science. That would be the ultimate irony: liberals arguing against conventional wisdom and scientific consensus. As I’ve been reading the blogs on this subject, the seeds of doubt are already being planted. Let’s hope they’re wrong, embarrassingly wrong.
For me, watching the conservative reaction will be more interesting. I’ve been extremely disappointed with the response from the right to the stem cell debate. In the last election cycle conservatives allowed the left to define the issue, and they failed to differentiate stem cell research from embryonic stem cell research. With this new development, we’ll find out who was doing it on purpose. There are some on the right side of the aisle who are opposed to all stem cell research, period. They fear that it’ll lead to human cloning, or dogs and cats living together.
It will be a relief to finally see the cook fringe exposed on both sides of this issue. Let’s stop playing politics and cure some damn diseases.

Does this image make you want to write a song?
I’m thinking something along these lines…
Where it began
I cant begin to knowin
But then I know its growin strong Was in the spring
And spring became the summer
Whod have believed youd come alongHands, touchin hands
Reachin out
Touchin me
Touchin youSweet caroline
Good times never seemed so good
Ive been inclined
To believe they never wouldBut now i
Look at the night
And it dont seem so lonely
We fill it up with only two
And when I hurt
Hurtin runs off my shoulders
How can I hurt when Im with youWarm, touchin warm
Reachin out
Touchin me
Touchin meSweet caroline
Good times never seemed so good
Ive been inclined
To believe they never would
Oh, no, noSweet caroline
Good times never seemed so good
Ive been inclined
I believed they never could
Sweet caroline
On second thought, that would be way too creepy.

This one’s for Cole’s grandfather.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5393001855631469304FYI: His dad’s first haircut wasn’t quite so easy. There was much fussing and screaming, I’ve heard.
