El Paso, Day 1
June 14th, 2007-6:59 pm by sub2changeWeather’s great. Hot and Dry. I haven’t been outside much and I’m already turning pink. I’m looking forward to hitting the pool later. Somebody photographed a tornado near the plant recently.
The work here might be easier than I thought (except that I just jinxed myself by saying that).
Mexico is right next door, yet hardly anyone here speaks Spanish or has an accent… Weird! And there aren’t a lot of Spanish signs, either.
The plant is right by a military base, and I got to watch swarms of helicopters fly over toward the mountains. Mountains… Cool!
I’m driving a “Harley Orange” Chevy Aveo. I requested hot pink. I get to drive it on dirt roads. The rental company must love us!
Buddy’s Beer Barn is a drive through liquor store. Showgirls is a BYOB “gentleman’s” club. Problem solved.
The plant is a reverse-osmosis desalination facility. It’s a process that I’ve wanted to see in action, and a nice bullet point to put on my corporate resume.

If you like huge slabs of beef, go to a place called “Cattleman’s” or something like that (its been a few years since I visited our plant in El Paso. It is about a 20 minute drive out. It was where some of the scenes the Meg Ryan movie “Courage Under Fire” was filmed.

You might want to check the signs on the city limits. The last time I was in El Paso there was no ocean to be desalinated.
Either you’re in San Diego or Al Gore is right.
