The Nation Throws a Temper Tantrum
I doubt that anyone is truly shocked by the election results. We've known for quite some time that conservatives were frustrated with the Republican party on both the state and national level. I know that I mentioned that I was disappointed on a few podcasts. I think that what we've seen is the result of all those moderate, undecided, uninformed, or unprincipled voters throwing up their hands and saying "vote these bums out."
The question of the day seems to be "how did the marriage amendment pass by such a wide margin?" I'll take a stab at the answer: straight ticket voting. I'd like to see the numbers on straight ticket ballots cast in this election. I'll bet that many frustrated voters walked in, marked Democrat in protest, and then voted their principles on referendum questions, which don't get decided by a party vote. I think it shows that there were plenty of conservatives at the polls, but they'd already decided to lose the election(s).
