    Banzai!

We just got back from our Monday night hangout. Kelly and I have been to Fujiyama almost every week for half-price sushi night since I first discovered the place in November. Well, actually we discovered the place when it opened in May. We really liked it then, but my experience the second time and half-price Monday sealed the deal!

I'm letting you in on this little secret because it's no longer a secret. EVERYONE has discovered half-price Mondays, and it's not so special for me anymore. I think we're going to have to start going once every other week, so that we can enjoy the personal attention that makes this restaurant so great. Or, we're going to have to convince them to give us preferred customer vouchers, so we can get half price on Thursday. :)

The food a Fujiyama is excellent. But, the personal attention that we get there is what makes it a habit. The waitstaff greets us like family. Seriously, the waitress who usually serves us (Cindy) will place her hand on our shoulder as she talks to us. I've also seen them hug customers as they walk in the door. This may not appeal to you, but the way the chefs treat you should. I like to sit right at the sushi bar and let them take care of me. Forget the menu. Just let these guys work!

When the chefs cook for us, I feel guilty when we leave. They make things for us to try and even drink with us sometimes. Cindy is always telling me that the off-menu items the chefs make us are "free for you." So, I just make sure to leave a big tip to her and the chef(s). And, I've told them that some of these items need to be added to the menu. It's especially hard to order my favorite things when the chef keeps telling me it's "a special!"

One other thing that the head chef does is vegetable art. I have no idea where he finds carrots this large, but he carves the coolest designs. He always seems to have a fresh carving, and photos of previous designs. If you ask nicely, he'll show you "King Kong." It's an adults-only carving that he showed me the first time I met him.
