    Rules? What Rules?

Aren't liberals funny? They can take advantage of a loophole, forget to close it behind them, and then cry foul when it backfires. And, they don't see the idiocy of their argument. I've managed to dig up a local example. Hurry up and read it, this story is getting more stale than a holiday fruit cake.

This post was a contender for blog of interest. I decided that I couldn't use it because I wanted to comment on it. I found this post while snooping blogs to prepare for the Carnival of the Badger XVII. You're going to have to take yourself back in time to October, when Nicole Devin finally took to the airwaves as the winner of the Milwaukee Talk Star competition. Around that time, a post appeared on the Daily Kos authored by Grafton's lovable, huggable liberal, Tim Schilke. Apparently, the blog was so bitter that even Tim had second thoughts about it. The post disappeared very quickly. Luckily, Folkbum's Rambles and Rants has some choice quotes:

In the spirit of "fair and balanced" airtime, ClearChannel management has hijacked the Milwaukee Talk Star competition out from under us. Instead of fulfilling the original contest rules ("That person will be offered a two-year contract to be the morning drive talk show host on News-Talk 1130 WISN"), they are putting Nicole on the morning show with a raving lunatic wingnut, Dan Deibert. He's been the temporary fill in on this morning show for a few months now, and he's earned the permanent gig as "Talk Over Man", doing his best company man impression as he fulfills his role as ClearChannel thought policeman.

The notion that anyone changed the rules is hilarious, especially when we hear it from Mr. Schilke. Tim took full advantage of the fact that there were no rules stating who could vote in the competition and led an online effort to railroad Nicole through the competition. Who is he to complain that the new format "breaks the rules," when that wasn't defined by the contest parameters either? Read his own statement again:

That person will be offered a two-year contract to be the morning drive talk show host on News-Talk 1130 WISN

Where does it say that the new host is going solo? This doesn't say anything, except that the contest winner will be on the morning show for two years. If Tim is upset that Dan talks over Nicole, perhaps he should've nominated someone who is more assertive. Instead, Mr. Schilke read all the bios to find the most liberal candidate, with no regard for any other criteria that might help his pick become a success. I'm still not sure how he picked Nicole, her bio had nothing on her politics. Check it out, they're still up!

Nicole was the very first person to audition and where did it get her?? To the final 20, that'’s where! Nicole is originally from Iowa but has lived in Milwaukee for 16 years. She has a BFA from the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee and has recently decided to go to graduate school for radio communications. Weird, huh? Nicole's '‘day'’ job is at a print shop in Butler. On the weekends she can be found playing Comedy Sportz here in Milwaukee. She likes long walks on the beach and people who make her laugh. Nicole dislikes sand in her shoes and tomatoes.

Nice job, Tim. There were other liberal voices in the contest. The fact that she was chosen seemingly out of thin air may lend some credibility to the theory that Tim knew of Nicole in advance. My personal feeling on that, after seeing the size of Nicole's entourage age at State Fair is that she may not have known Tim personally, but a friend of a friend of a friend probably did. Oh well.

As a contestant, and witness to the "gang of twenty" meeting, I can tell you that it was made PERFECTLY clear that the format of the new show was not decided. One contestant (I believe it was Joe K.), who was sitting at the end of the table opposite the two Crowleys, even asked if he could nominate a friend to be on the show with him. Jerry Bott told us that they would decide the format after the contest, and that the winner may have some input. I knew from listening to him that ClearChannel was calling the shots. There was no change in the rules, because the rule was "We will decide the format of the new morning show."
