Sunday Insight: Blogger's Edition
Today on Charlie Sykes' Sunday Insight, Charlie will be sitting down with local bloggers to discuss blogs, blogging, and the impact of blogging on politics and the MSM. This seems like a great opportunity for me to try some "live blogging." Steve had the same idea. Great minds, right, Steve?
Charlie's guest bloggers today are:
Jessica McBride, McBride's Media Matters.
John McAdams, Marquette Warrior.
Owen Robinson, Boots and Sabers.
Jeff Mayers, Wispolitics. Wispolitics is a conglomeration of blogs and political analysts.
Charlie Sykes, Sykes Writes.
Intros: Why we blog.
The common thread here is that blogs react to news, and they do it faster than the main stream media. Blogs are now being used to gauge the public reaction.
Credibility of blogs, what is the quality control?
Owen: bloggers develop trust over time. Our readers will hold us accountable and correct our mistakes.
By the way, everything here is paraphrased. Feel free to comment if you think I've missed the point.
How have blogs changed the MSM?
Jeff: I used to be in the MSM. Now, anyone can be a publisher. The immediacy of the internet and the filterless operation scare the MSM.
Owen: The MSM will have to get better, because they're being shown up by guys in their pajamas.
John: The Marquette mascot story forced the MJS to act more bloglike. They had updates online within minutes or hours, without regard to print deadlines.
Jessica: There aren't conservative media voices in Wisconsin print media.
OUCH! Patrick got screwed. Charlie didn't include his blog on the list! We DO indeed police each other. Patrick has a correction for me: Aaron thinks I got screwed because my Blog wasn’t on the screen, but it was mentioned by name.
More on the MSM.
Jessica: My blog on Doyle's BBQ forced the MSM to admit unfair coverage.
Jeff: Blogs can predict the news before it happens.
Brian Fraley's blog was announced by Jeff! Notice, he didn't say "Milwaukee Talkstar Contestant Brian Fraley" in front of Charlie.
If you were watching, you already know that I missed a bit. I need to get a TiVo before I try this live blogging thing again! It also doesn't help that I'm a one-handed typist.
Update: In spite of losing out on a shameless plug, Patrick has a great summary of the show.

4 Amendments:
Sounds about right :-)
I see that both of us were too slow to catch the winners and losers.
You guys did great. I have tried to live blog things and it is not easy! It is much easier to cheat and record it like I did :)
Aaron-- I started laughing when I read your comment over at Steve's blog... I know how that goes...
